![]() The Repair Manuals I have don´t say anything about spring length and spring rate. I can´t seem to be able to find the spring in the various Online Shops. as far as I can see in the Body / Repair manuals, the Steering wheel is tightened against a spring with a nut. Just an Edit: Since I have steering wheel professionals here. You did not just answer my questions but teached me a lot more. Wow, I´m blown away! Cameron, Rich! I really appreciate the valuable information you brought up on this topic and answering my questions. I like the Billet specialties wheel the previous owner put into my El Camino, but the original one in a 2-tone look and with that beautiful horn button just looks gorgeous and I think I need one sooner or later, so I hope someone here has a few answers for my questions. Did someone restore such a wheel and knows if there´s a mechanism to get them off or how did you re-chrome them and fit them back in? But the Chevelle steering wheels also have 4 chrome rings inserted into the wheels. When doing this, of course you can choose your own colour and match the 2-tone look of your interious, so this sounds tempting. Later on they get prepaired for paint and get painted. They open up the cracks a bit and fill them up with epoxy and then remodel the shape in that spot. The restoring articles and videos I´ve seen are all pretty much the same.So the big question is: Are they plastic with a metal core or did they really produce all-metal wheels back then for some car models? I´ve seen a few videos and articles about that topic and that looks doable for me. I *think* all those wheels are plastic with a metal core, so cracks are not creating problems in terms of stability and can be repaired / filled with a bit of practice. Don´t laugh, but from the photos it was impossible for me to judge if the wheel is all metal and just badly corroded or if it is brownish plastic. ![]() I found one 1964 Chevelle wheel on ebay with a lot of cracks. But then I wonder why nobody offers them as Chevelle steering wheels too. Then a Reproduction one could be interesting. and I hope someone here has better knowledge and can tell me if they are exactly the same and interchangable. On the pictures, for me they looked pretty much identical. I can´t seem to find reproduction steering wheels for 1964 Chevelles / El Caminos. So after the last few weeks a few questions accumulated and I hope some of you can help me with them. I was looking for "new" ones (reproduction), but since I can´t find any online, I started to think of getting an original one and try to restore it. I´m thinking about getting a 1964 Steering Wheel for my El Camino.
